3:30-4:45 Session A: Problem solving session on Healthy Food Access in North City and North County
The mission of the St. Louis Food Policy Coalition is to promote a thriving local food system that supports the health, community, environment, and economy of the Greater St. Louis area. In its effort to do that, the Coalition has embarked on several listening sessions in North St. Louis City and County to hear from residents about their healthy food access needs. In this session, leaders of the Coalition will provide insight on what they heard from residents. Participants in the session will help problem solve two pervading issues - 1) How can we attract stores with healthy food options to open up in areas that lack a grocery store and 2) How can we get healthier food options into existing stores in those areas.
3:30-4:45 Session B: Working session on Green Infrastructure/Watershed Planning
This session will serve as a follow-up to the Water and Green Infrastructure focus group that occurred at the 2017 Sustainability Summit in April. We will continue the discussion started at the Summit on promoting and supporting efforts within the region to improve water quality through watershed planning and community outreach and education. At this session we will:
- Begin to create a Network Map of groups and initiatives working on water quality
- Record significant regional assets related to water, habitat, and open space
- Discuss next steps in providing support for Watershed Planning
5:15-6:30 Session A: Problem solving session on Breaking into a Market
Join the founders of Accelerate Wind and Applied Particle Technology as they discuss their experiences with starting up a business in St. Louis. As start-ups with a new technology, each company has to deal with the innovation part of their products, plus break into well-established development, construction and building maintenance markets. The session will begin with an overview of each business and some of their challenges. The group will them break up to have smaller, focused discussions and brainstorming on overcoming the challenges of Breaking into a Market. Accelerate Wind is particularly looking for input from those in the green building and renewable energy industries, and Applied Particle Technologies is looking for input from those in [TO BE INSERTED], though input from all backgrounds is very useful in creating a balanced discussion.
5:15-6:30 Session B: Problem solving session on Business-Neighborhood Relations
“So Fresh, So Clean, So Creative Southside St. Louis,” is a project of the Dutchtown South Community Corporation. This project aims to reduce improper solid waste disposal, littering and illegal dumping while building community capacity to address and enact system-level change. In a recent workshop, residents expressed their desire to understand how to encourage their corporate neighbors and industries to reduce their waste. Join the program's implementers and Community Champions in brainstorming solutions to engaging and influencing their neighborhood businesses on this issue.
