City of Clayton Supports Regional GHG Reduction
- Published on Thursday August 16th, 2018
We are proud to announce that the City of Clayton Mayor and Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to endorse OneSTL’s target to counteract climate change through greenhouse gas reduction. Clayton is the first city in the region to formally endorse this target. Our goal is to reduce the St. Louis region’s greenhouse gas emissions by 28% by 2025 and 80% by 2050, which reflects the United States’ commitment to the Paris climate agreement.
Lowering greenhouse gas emissions will not only help fight climate change but also improve air quality, increasing the health of our residents, and create green jobs, improving our regional economy.
Clayton has a strong history of environmental leadership. The city supports pollinator populations through Habitat Advisors and the Milkweed for Monarchs program. Clayton also has pledged to conserve energy and reduce their environmental impact by participating in the USGBC-MO Gateway Chapter’s “Better Buildings Through Energy Benchmarking” program. The OneSTL Energy and Emissions Working Group, a collection of industry experts and stakeholders, will provide Clayton with technical assistance as we work together to reach our greenhouse gas emissions target.
If you want to get involved in creating a more sustainable St. Louis region, support the OneSTL targets. You can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve access to healthy food, support transit-oriented development, increase biodiversity, protect our watershed, and reduce waste in our region.
